What this is
I Know a Guy is a printed homeowner guide, published in ZIP-code editions, with a website that shows the same list. Each service lists one company. Homeowners use it free. The guide and this site are published by I KNOW A GUY LLC, a Minnesota company.
For homeowners
The guide is a recommendation, not a guarantee. I screen every company before it appears: I check insurance, check licensing where the work requires it, and talk to them before anything prints. But the work, the price, and the contract are between you and the company. You are calling them directly. I am not in the middle and I do not take a cut of the job.
Had a bad experience? Tell me. Every company has to earn its spot again in the next issue.
For companies
A spot is one service in one ZIP edition for one printed issue, at a flat fee for the season. The fee scales with the number of homes the edition mails to, and you see the exact number on the spot page before you pay. It buys exclusivity: yours is the only name under your trade, and the site will never show two.
Paying holds the spot. It does not skip the screening and it does not lower the bar. If you do not pass, the fee comes back to you in full. If the edition does not mail, it comes back too. A spot in one issue does not guarantee the next.
I do not promise a number of calls, leads, or jobs. What you are buying is the spot and the exclusivity, not an outcome.
Accuracy
Listings print what you give me, checked at publication, and you see a proof before the guide prints. If something is wrong, tell me and I will fix it online right away and in print at the next issue.
The legal part
These terms are governed by Minnesota law, and any dispute belongs in the state or federal courts of Hennepin County, Minnesota. But call me first. Almost everything is fixable with a phone call.
